Pittsburgh Ties No. 15 Rutgers, 0-0, In Double Overtime

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Panther men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw in 120 minutes of Big East soccer action against 15th-ranked Rutgers (7-3-3/ 5-0-2 Big East) Friday evening at Pitt Stadium. The Panthers' record moves to 4-6-3 overall, 0-5-2 in the Big East.
Pittsburgh junior Chad Porter (Irwin, Pa./ Penn Trafford) led the panthers with four shots on goal, while senior Travis Kruse (Chargrin Falls, Ohio/ Chargrin Falls) followed with three shots on goal.
The Scarlet Knights were led by senior Brian Piesner with four shots on goal. Both senior Vinnie Almeida and sophomore Dennis Ludwig recorded three shots a piece on goal.
Two overtime periods provided numerous scoring opportunities, but neither team was able to convert the game-winning goal.
Panther freshman Justin Gaul (Huntington Valley, Pa./ William Tennent) made seven saves in the game to recorded his fifth shutout of the season and his third tie. Rutgers goaltender Jon Conway made 11 saves in the game to move his record to 7-3-3.
The Panthers continue Big East competition when they host Villanova on Sunday, Oct. 17 in Pitt Stadium.
