Pittsburgh Downs St. Bonaventure In Season Opener

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 1999-2000 season by defeating St. Bonaventure tonight at Trees Pool. The men claimed a 170-69 victory, while the women won by a score of 180-63.
The men's team won all but two events. Senior Regan Drew (Shreveport, La./Arlington Martin) placed first in both distance freestyle events, winning the 500-yard free in 4:41.18 and the 1000 free in 9:45.35.
Freshman Mike Grube (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) made an impact in his first collegiate meet by claiming two events, including the 50 free (21.10) and the 100 free (46.56).
In diving, sophomore Michael Wells (Downington, Pa./Downington) placed first on both the one- and three-meter boards with scores of 177.10 and 189.00, respectively.
The women's team won all 13 events and were led by junior Amanda Lyle (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), who claimed two first-place finishes. She won the 100 free in 53.96 and the 200 free in 1:55.27.
Freshmen Emily Colley (Pace, Fla./Pace) and Rubi Cisneros (Monterrey, Mexico/Monterrey) each won their respective distance freesyle events. Colley finished with a time of 5:01.76 in the 500 free, while Cisneros recorded a time of 10:18.24 in the 1000 free.
Senior diver Jamie Tomazich (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) won both the one- and three-meter boards with scores of 184.95 and 205.85, respectively.
The Panthers host Big East foe Syracuse tomorrow, Oct. 30, at Trees Pool. Meet time is 11 a.m. (Diving begins at 10 a.m.)
