
Panthers Fall To Hoyas In Overtime, 1-0

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Panther men's soccer team competed until the final minutes of a double overtime Big East matchup with Georgetown, but fell to the Hoyas, 1-0.
Pittsburgh and Georgetown remained scoreless after 90 minutes of regulation play, as well as the first overtime period. Panther forward Chad Porter (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) received his second yellow card of the game at 118:15, forcing Pittsburgh to play short one man. Seconds later, Hoya forward Tony Soric netted the game-winning goal with just 1:37 remaining in the second overtime. He took an assist from midfielder Kevin Shaw past Pittsburgh goalkeeper Justin Gaul (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent) in to the right side of the net to clinch the win for Georgetown.
The Panthers edged the Hoyas on shots, 16-14. They also held the advantage in corner kicks, 9-2. Pittsburgh was led by senior forward Reagan Bender (Willow Street, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and junior midfielder Ben Garry (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes), each with four shots.
Gaul had seven saves on the afternoon. Georgetown's Ehren Halse-Stumberg recorded three saves and the win.
Pittsburgh (2-4-2 overall, 0-3-1 Big East) hosts Robert Morris on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at Pitt Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
