Panthers Begin Season on Winning Note

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. - The University of Pittsburgh's men's swimming and diving team (1-0) opened the 2000-01 campaign with a 133-104 victory at St. Bonaventure. The Panthers won all but two events against the Bonnies and claimed the top two spots in five events.
Sophomore Mike Grube (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby), who won the 200 IM (1:57.73), posted a nationally-ranked time of 45.85 in the 100 free, just .01 off the winning time of SBU's Ernest Teo (45.84).
Freshman Eric Limkemann (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) won the 1,000 free (9:34.95) in his first competition as a Panther, setting a SBU pool record, as the Panthers took the top three spots in the event. Classmates Chris Hurt (Oklahoma City, Okla./Putnam City North) and Ken Shelhorse (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) were in on the sweep, finishing second and third, respectively. Shelhorse additionally won the 100 back with a time of 53.19.
In diving, Michael Wells (Downington, Pa./Downington) swept on both the one and three-meter boards.
