Pittsburgh Finishes Fourth at Nike Cup

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Pittsburgh women's swimming and diving team is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Nike Cup Invitational, held Nov. 16-18 at the University of North Carolina. Host and ninth-ranked Tar Heels won the three-day event with 1,161 points, while the Panthers scored 310 to finish above Big East foes Syracuse and Connecticut.
Pittsburgh was led by sophomore Emily Colley (Pace, Fla./Pace), who scored in four individual events. She began the final day of competition at the Nike Cup with a fifth-place finish in the 1,650 free (17:0534). Later in the day, she claimed a 14th-place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.77. Colley placed 17th in the 200 free (1:53.48) on the second day and 12th in the 500 free (4:57.59) on day one.
The Panthers top individual finish came in the 100 breast. Freshman Ryan Redman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) posted a time of 1:04.29 to place third (tied).
Pittsburgh was able to perform well in the relay events, recording top five finishes in each of the five events. The 200 medley relay team of Mary Duke (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff), Redman, Kelli Tielking (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Jenny Livingstone (Endwell, N.Y./Union-Endicott) finished third with a time of 1:46.86.
In diving competition Jen O'Brien (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) took second in both the one- and three-meter boards. The freshman posted an impressive score of 489.15 on the three-meter board, while scoring 277.25 points on the one-meter. Junior Moreen O'Brien (Springfield, Ill./Springfield) brought home a third-place finish on the one-meter board (251.95).
