PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ricardo Greer scored on a layup as time expired to give the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball team a 71-69 overtime win Saturday over Marist.
The Panthers (3-0) and visiting Red Foxes (1-2) were tied 69-69 when Marist forward Matt Tullis inbounded the ball from underneath Pitt's basket with three seconds remaining.
But Panthers senior Isaac Hawkins picked off the toss and quickly fired it to Greer for the tip-in.
Marist led most of the game and held a 59-55 advantage with 3:22 remaining in regulation. Greer, who led Pitt with 19 points, made one of two free throws.
Junior Chad Johnson scored off an offensive rebound and sophomore point guard Brandin Knight added another free throw to send the game into overtime tied at 59-59.
Pitt worked its way to a 69-66 lead in overtime on Johnson's three-point play with 53 seconds remaining, but guard Sean Kennedy's 3-pointer with 41 seconds remaining tied the score to force final action.
The Panthers only held a 37-35 rebounding lead. They made only 2 of 16 shots from 3-point range, despite shooting better than 49 percent from the field, and were just 13 of 28 from the free-throw line.
Johnson finished with 13 points for Pitt, while Page added 12 and Knight tallied 10. Kennedy finished with 15 points.
