PITTSBURGH ?
The men?s team scored a 186-57 victory over the Bonnies, while the women?s team won the meet by a score of 165-78. On the women?s side, the Panthers won 11 of the 13 events and in the men?s meet, Pittsburgh won all but one of the 13 scheduled events.
The 400 medley relay team of Kelli Krallman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy), Ryan Redman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), Kelli Tielking (Damascus, Md./Damascus), and Kelly Redcay (Reading, Pa./Wilson) got things started for the Panthers with a victory in 3:57.81.
Senior captain Emily Colley (Pace, Fla./Pace) got the Panthers? first individual victory in the 1650 freestyle. She qualified for the Big East Championships with a time of 17:04.71. Coming in second and third place were Kate Butrie (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) and Rubi Cisneros (Monterrey, Mexico/Monterrey) with Big East-qualifying times of 17:35.43 and 17:37.84, respectively. In the women?s next event, junior Carolyne Savini (Egg Harbour Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit) touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.60, qualifying for the Big East Championships in the event.
Suzanne Crimmin of St. Bonaventure got the Bonnies? first victory in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 23.84 seconds, 0.41 faster than Jenny Livingstone (Endwell, N.Y./Union-Endicott) of the Panthers, who met the Big East standard time. Pittsburgh got back on the winning track when sophomore Jennifer Koch (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) beat out teammate Lacey Hlavka (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield) in the 400 individual medley. Koch?s time of 4:34.10 and Hlavka?s time of 4:35.69 were both good enough to qualify for the Big East Championships.
Colleen Kristobak (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored both diving victories for the Panthers, winning the 1-meter competition with 251.1 points and the 3-meter competition with 237.75 points. Colley got her second win in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.48, edging Koch by 1.04 seconds even though both times were good enough to qualify for the Big East Championships. Savini got her second win in the 100 freestyle, swimming it in 52.03 seconds for a Big East ?A? time. Also qualifying for the meet was Livingstone, who finished third with a time of 52.52 seconds.
Krallman won the 200 backstroke for the Panthers with a time of 2:09.27 and fellow freshman Amy Miteff (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) swam a B-cut time in the 500 freestyle, winning the event in 5:06.75. The final individual event was won by Elise Gailard of St. Bonaventure in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.56), with the Panthers? Sarah Grant (Simi Valley, Calif./Seneca Valley) and Cynthia Snyder (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) qualifying for the Big East Championships with times of 2:25.85 and 2:26.04, respectively. Junior captain Eric Limkemann (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) continued his dominance of the distance freestyle events by winning the 1650 free with a time of 15:53.65, a Big East ?A? cut. He topped teammate Hannes Kohnke (Malmo, Sweden/Borgarskolan) by 17.27 seconds and Kohnke?s time was also good enough to qualify for the conference meet.
Junior Adam Webber (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) got a victory and a ?B? cut time in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in 1:43.38. Freshman Darryl Washington (Aldan, Pa./Penn Wood) scored a big victory in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 21.14 seconds, a career-best and Big East-qualifying time. Bernardi, another first-year swimmer for the Panthers, got an individual win in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:06.84. His time qualifies him to participate in the Big East Championships in February.
Like Kristobak on the women?s side, diver Dennis Nemtsanov (Calhoun, Ga./LSU) won both competitions for the Panthers. On the 3-meter board, Nemtsanov scored 295.2 points and nailed down a total of 321.3 points on the 1-meter board.
Bernardi got a second individual top-place finish in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in a Big East-qualifying time of 1:54.77. Washington touched in 0.23 seconds later to break the 47-second plateau.
Other individual winners for the men?s team included Bird in the 200 backstroke (Big East-qualifying time of 1:53.59) and Webber in the 500 freestyle (4:42.04).
