10/31/2002
PITTSBURGH?A limited number of tickets returned from the visiting exhibition team allotments are now available for both Pittsburgh men?s basketball exhibition games on Saturday, Nov. 9 against the E.A. Sports All-Stars and Saturday, Nov. 16 vs. the One World All-Stars. Both exhibition contests begin at 7:30 p.m. in the brand-new, sold-out Petersen Events Center.
Tickets may be purchased by calling the Panthers Ticket Office at (412) 648-PITT.
?We are required each game to hold 200 seats for visiting teams,? Pittsburgh Associate Athletic Director Jim Earle said. ?From time to time, these tickets will be returned from the visiting team and when possible, they will go on sale to the general public.
Pittsburgh begins its first season playing in the brand new, sold-out Petersen Events Center. The Panthers are one of three 2002 NCAA Sweet Sixteen teams to return all five starters and nine letterwinners from a squad that finished with a school-record 29 wins (29-6 overall/13-3 Big East), a NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance and Big East West championship, the school?s first league title of any kind since the 1987-88 season. Fourth-year head coach Ben Howland was selected as the 2001-02 consensus national coach of the year while Knight was named the Big East Co-Player of the Year and All-America third team.
