Miami FL 28, Pittsburgh 21
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Willis McGahee ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns, leading top-ranked Miami-Florida to a 28-21 victory over No. 17 Pittsburgh at the Orange Bowl.
Ken Dorsey threw for 163 yards and one touchdown, as the Hurricanes (10-0, 5-0 Big East) extended the nation's longest winning streak to 32 games and continued their march toward a second straight national championship game.
Miami scored 21 consecutive points to erase a 14-7 deficit and held on for its 22nd straight conference victory. The Hurricanes still have games remaining at Syracuse on November 30 and at home against Virginia Tech on December 7. Wins in both games will ensure the 'Canes a trip to the Fiesta Bowl.
Pittsburgh (8-3, 5-1) entered the contest with a three-game winning streak and needed a victory to grab at least a share of the conference crown. The Panthers took a 14-7 lead late in the first half, but could not hold on.
Rod Rutherford completed 16-of-37 passes for 143 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 68 yards with a score for the Panthers. His three-yard touchdown run with 4:37 left in the fourth quarter pulled Pittsburgh within 28-21.
The Panther defense then forced a Miami punt and the offense took over at its own 42 with 2:12 remaining. Rutherford was sacked on the first two plays, but hit Larry Fitzgerald with a pair of passes to put the ball at the Miami 35 with just over a minute left.
Rutherford faced a 4th-and-5 moments later and overthrew an open Yogi Roth in the end zone with 20 seconds remaining.
The Hurricanes took the opening kickoff of the second half and needed just 1:42 to snap a 14-14 tie. Dorsey opened the drive with a 19-yard pass to Roscoe Parrish and McGahee ran for 13 yards on the next play. After a nine- yard pass to Kellen Winslow, Dorsey hit Andre Johnson along the right sideline for a 30-yard touchdown.
McGahee added a six-yard touchdown run early in the fourth to extend the Miami lead to 28-14.
