Vince Crochunis Earns Verizon Academic All-America Honors

University of Pittsburgh sophomore defensive lineman Vince Crochunis has been selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America Football Team, it was announced today.
A first-team defensive selection, Crochunis (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Schuylkill Haven Area) is a political science major and boasts a 3.78 grade-point average. He is Pittsburgh?s first Academic All-American since defensive back Louis Riddick in 1990.
To be nominated, a player must be a starter or important reserve, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at their institution. The team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Crochunis has started all 12 games this season at nose tackle. He has 61 tackles, including seven for losses and two sacks. His three fumble recoveries lead the team.
