3/22/2002
PITTSBURGH-- University of Pittsburgh head men's soccer coach Joe Luxbacher has announced the signing of defender/midfielder Thomas DeCato to a national letter-of-intent to play for the 2002 season.
A native of LaGrangeville, N.Y., DeCato helped lead LaGrangeville to the 1999 league, section and state championships.
DeCato was a two-time all-league honoree and also earned all-section honors in his junior year. While serving as the team's captain in 2001, the Poughkeepsie Journal named DeCato to its 2001 all-star squad. He finished his high school campaign with 23 goals and 18 assists and led LaGrangeville to an overall 69-9-4 record in his four years there.
Decato also played on the F.C. Westchester club team for three years and led them to a national championship in 2000 and the 2001 state championship. Additionally, he was a bronze medalist at the 2001 Empire State Games.
He joins Keeyan Young (North Wales, Pa./The Haverford School) as recruits for the 2002 season. The home opener is scheduled for Sept. 4 against Niagara at 7 p.m.
