Brant Colamarino Signs Professional Contract With the Oakland A's

The former Panther passes up his final year of eligibility after becoming one of the most prolific offensive threats in Pittsburgh history.

PITTSBURGH?Former University of Pittsburgh first baseman Brant Colamarino recently signed a professional contract with the Oakland A?s. Colamarino will forego his senior season with the Panthers after being selected in the seventh round (218th overall pick) in the Major League Baseball draft.

Colamarino is with the shortseason Class-A Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest League. He is currently batting .323 with four home runs and 21 RBIs in 28 games.

While at Pittsburgh, Colamarino was an All-Big East and All-ECAC honoree as a junior last season. This past year, Colamarino led the Panthers in batting average (.384), runs (58), home runs (19), walks (40) and slugging percentage (.802). His 19 home runs tied the school single-season mark set by Lydic in 2000, while his 58 runs also broke Lydic?s mark of 57 set that same year. A three-time Big East Player of the Week, Colamarino also ranks in the top 10 in several Panther career categories, including batting average, hits, runs, home runs and RBIs.
