Men's Soccer Upends St. Francis (PA) 3-1

LORETTO, Pa. ? Marco Carrizales scored a season-high two goals and Pittsburgh claimed its sixth men?s soccer victory of the season as it downed St. Francis (PA) 3-1 Wednesday afternoon in Loretto. The win improved Pittsburgh to 6-2-0 overall while St. Francis (Pa.) drops to 3-5-0.
All four goals were scored within an eight-minute span in the second half. Carrizales gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead on his first goal of the day at the 52:45 mark. St. Francis? Omari Aldridge tied the game on a breakaway score of his own just a minute later.
But with the score tied at 1-1, the Panthers grabbed the momentum back. Carrizales gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead 15 seconds later with a rebound goal which later turned out to be the game winner. Five minutes later, Pittsburgh?s Bryan Hopper put the game away when he scored after taking a pass from Keeyan Young. That gave Pittsburgh a 3-1 lead, a lead it would hold for the final 31 minutes.
The two goals were Carrizales? fifth and sixth of the season. He also registered his third game winner of the year.
Pittsburgh outshot St. Francis 14-7 and finished with six corner kicks to St. Francis? four. On offense, the Panthers kept St. Francis busy as they forced their opponents into making nine saves. Goalkeeper Justin Gaul made three saves for Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh gets back to Big East Conference play Saturday at St. John?s. Game time is 7 p.m.
