Volleyball Sweeps UAB in Community Banker's Classic Consolation Match

STOCKTON, Calif. - In its final match before the NCAA Championships, the Pittsburgh volleyball team topped UAB, 30-17, 30-22, 30-21, in the consolation of the Community Banker's Classic on Saturday evening at the University of the Pacific.
Pittsburgh (25-5) avenged a loss in 2002 to the Blazers (14-20) by hitting .447 in the first game and .336 for the match, while holding UAB to a .000 hitting percentage through the first two frames and .049 for the match.
Seniors Sarah Rollman (Norfolk, Neb./Norfolk) and Wendy Hatlestad (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) had 15 kills apiece to pace the Panthers. Rollman had just one error in 36 attempts for a .389 hitting percentage, and added nine digs. Hatlestad hit .303 in 33 attempts with seven digs.
Junior middle hitter Megan Miller (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) added 13 kills and a .391 hitting percentage while stuffing a match-high six blocks at the net. Junior setter Lindsey Macke (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) had a match-high 44 assists and added 11 digs for a double-double, while sophomore libero Megan McGrane (Muncie, Ind./Delta) had 16 digs to pace the Panthers' defense.
In the tournament championship game, host Pacific swept past Oregon State. The Panthers will learn of their first-round destination and opponent for the NCAA Championships on Sunday evening. The 64-team field will be released live on ESPNews at 8 p.m. EST.
