Pittsburgh earns first Big East victory of the season with 3-1 decision over Boston College.

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS.?Pittsburgh Women?s Volleyball team opened Big East Conference play in Chestnut Hill, Mass. with a 3-1 victory over Boston College Sunday afternoon. The Panthers recovered after losing the first game 26-30, to sweep the next three games 30-21, 34-32 and 30-26.
Seniors Wendy Hatlestad (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) and Sarah Rollman (Norfolk, Neb./Norfolk) paced the Panthers (11-3, 1-0) with a total of 37 kills. Hatlestad registered a team-high 19 kills in 55 attempts for a .182 hitting percentage, while Rollman added 18 kills in 47 attempts for a .277 hitting percentage.
Boston College (11-3, 0-1) used a match-high 23 kills from Alison Shepp in addition to 22 kills from teammate Allison Anderson to grab the early lead in the match, but the Panthers were just too much down the stretch.
Lindsey Macke (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Notre Dame Academy registered a team-high 50 assists, while Verena Rost of Boston College notched a match-high 57 assists for the Eagles.
The Panthers return to action Sat., Oct. 4th as they travel to Villanova for a Big East showdown against the Wildcats.
