Tarquinio Leads Wrestling at Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

The Panthers had three placewinners at the two-day tournament.
LAS VEGAS - Led by junior Ronald Tarquinio, the Pittsburgh wrestling team had three placewinners at the two-day Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, held Friday and Saturday, and finished in a tie for 10th place with EWL rival Edinboro, scoring 64.5 points.
Tarquinio (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) was one of 10 Panthers competing in the tournament and won all five of his bouts at 141 pounds to win first place in his weight class and improved to 13-2 for the season.
His biggest win came in the semifinals with a 3-2 decision over Matt Murray of Nebraska before scoring a 6-3 victory over Richard LaForge of Hofstra in the finals to win the championship. The Panthers' other two placewinners were sophomores Matt Kocher (State College, Pa./State College Area) and Drew Headlee (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg). Kocher finished fifth at 149 pounds with a 6-2 record and improved to 18-4 for the season and 50-17 in his short career. He leads the Panthers in victories with 18 and major decisions with six.
Headlee won four of his seven bouts and lost to three nationally ranked wrestlers to place sixth at 133 pounds for the Panthers. Headlee is now 13-5 in 2004-05 with five wins earning him bonus points thus far.
