BROOKLYN, N.Y. ? The Pittsburgh men?s soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Long Island University in day one of the FieldTurf/Courtyard by Marriott LaGuardia Soccer Classic at LIU Field. Pittsburgh is now 1-0-2, 0-0-1 in the Big East.
The Pittsburgh-LIU encounter was a physical one as the teams combined for 56 fouls and seven cards. The Blackbirds (0-2-1) owned a 20-9 shot advantage, including 17-5 after regulation.
Senior goalkeeper Ryszard Gorski came up with three big saves for LIU. He stopped Thomas Decato's shot up close in the 77th minute and made saves in the second overtime off Billy Brush (Olney, Md.) and Brian Madden (Landsale, Pa.).
Pittsburgh goalkeeper Justin Lowery also played solidly in net, posting eight saves for the Panthers.
Norman LeVesque took four shots for LIU with sophomore Omer Rozen and Jonas Stigh adding three apiece.
Brush led Pittsburgh with three shots.
The Panthers will face Hofstra tomorrow, September 12, at 12:30 p.m.
