Pitt Cross Country Competes in Paul Short Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Lehigh University for the 32nd Paul Short Invitational on Saturday, October 1. The invitational featured four nationally-ranked teams and a number of strong competitors from the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Leading the Panthers was sophomore Sam Bair (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) who finished second out of 296 runners with a time of 23:54.3. "It sometimes helps to run a good time earlier in the season," he said. "It helps to boost your confidence." This is Bair's third finish this season that has placed him at the top of his conference and region. Should his success continue, he could find himself competing in the NCAA Championships in November. Following Bair was sophomore Curtis Larimer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) with a time of 25:31.0 and junior Steve Gonzalez (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) with a time of 25:43.0.
Finishing in first for the Panthers and 67th overall was senior Nicki Angstadt (Kutztown, Pa./Fleetwood). Angstadt finished with a time of 21:57. 6. She was followed by sophomores Ali Briggs (Washington, Pa./Washington) and Candice Coholich (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) with times of 22:24.9 and 22:30.3 respectively.
The men's team finished 28th and the women's team in 24th. The Panthers' have the week off, but will head to State College, Pa. on October 15 for the National Invitational.
