Blue Wins Annual Blue/Gold Meet

PITTSBURGH--Captain Jason Miller broke two of his own meet-records, this afternoon, and led the Blue team to a 136-109 win in the University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving annual Blue/Gold Meet held at Trees Pool.
Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) shaved .71 seconds off his 200 fly standard, making the new time-to-beat 1:52.09. In the 100 fly, he also dropped time off a 50.14 mark from two seasons ago and finished at 50.09. Miller's final win for the Blue team was in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.04.
The meet opened with a win by the Gold team in the 200 medley relay. Thomas Bird, Dave Montgomery (Thorton, Pa./Salesianum), Michael Bernardi and Darryl Washington finished with a time of 1:33.70 in the event.
Bernardi (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) also turned in a first-place performance in the 50 free (21.94), edging out Patrick Mansfield's (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) 21.98 effort.
For the Blue, Warren Barnes (Pickering, Ont./Dunbarton) set the pace for the 100 breast, as he finished at 57.32 edging out the 2003 mark of 57.82 by Randy Gertenbach. Barnes later won the 200 breast with a time of 2:10.76.
Captain for the Gold team, Washington (Aldan, Pa./Penn Wood) won the 100 free at 46.50 and assisted in the top-finish by the 200 free relay team, consisting of Washington, Bernardi, Bird and Montgomery. Bird (Charleston, W.Va./Capital) also won the 100 back at 52.01 for the gold team.
Chris George (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) assisted the Blue team with wins in the 200 free (1:44.22) and 500 free (4:39.48).
The Panthers will travel to Olean, N.Y. to face St. Bonaventure on Friday, Oct. 28 at 10:30 a.m.
