No. 6 Louisville Ends Pitt's Six-Match Winning Streak

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Pitt volleyball team had its six-match winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to No. 6 Louisville at Cardinal Arena. The Panthers won the second set to even the match at a game apiece but couldn't pull off the upset.
Pitt (13-8, 6-2 Big East) couldn't get much going in the first game and fell by a score of 30-16, but came back in game two with a 30-28 win. The Cardinals (19-0, 7-0) remained unbeaten this season by winning the final two sets by scores of 30-22 and 30-25.
Three Panthers managed double figures in kills, led by sophomore Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) with 19 putaways. Andreyko added 10 digs for a double-double, three aces and a block assist for a total of 22.5 points.
Senior Gini Ullery (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) added 11 kills and five digs, while fellow senior Ashley White (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East/Indiana) had 10 kills. Louisville's Lena Ustymenko hit .280 with a match-high 21 kills, added 10 digs for a double-double and tied the school record with nine service aces for a total of 30.5 points. Ana Yartseva added 17 kills and hit .500 with eight digs and eight blocks.
The Panthers' Megan McGrane (Muncie, Ind./Delta) recorded over 30 digs for the second consecutive contest with a match-high 31 in the loss. Junior setter Azadeh Boroumand (Red Deer, Alberta/Thurber) provided a spark for the Panthers off the bench with four kills, a match-high 36 assists, four digs and three blocks.
The Panthers will play at Cincinnati tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. before returning home for an Oct. 28 match against Seton Hall.
