Oct. 22, 2005
INDIANOLA,
The Fighting Irish got off to a quick start by scoring two early goals. The first, coming in the game's fourth minute, was scored by sophomore Alex Yoshinga after he deposited a kick into the corner of the net after a corner kick. Just three minutes later, junior teammate Greg Dalby got involved when he received possession of a loose ball directly in front of the net. After some dribbling, Dalby made the score 2-0 in favor of the Fighting Irish.
As usual, Pitt coach Joe Luxbacher made key halftime adjustments that proved to make a difference. In the 63rd minute, junior Brendon Smith got off a hard shot that was saved by Irish goalie Chris Cahill. However, freshman defender Matt Firster was the recipient of the rebound and proceeded to notch his second goal of the season.
The Irish held on for the remainder of the game, perfectly defending every remaining Pitt scoring opportunity.
The loss drops the Panthers to 3-10-1 overall, and 2-7-0 in Big East play. The Irish move to 9-5-2, and 5-4-1 in conference play.
Next up, Pitt faces the Georgetown Hoyas on the road, Wednesday Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.
