PITTSBURGH-Junior Andrea Shoust (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont./White Pines C & VS) and sophomore Warren Barnes (Pickering, Ont./Dunbarton) returned to Canada this past weekend to compete in the Commonwealth Games Trials. The games are an Olympic-style event in which all of the countries from the British Commonwealth compete in several different sports. Those countries competing include Great Britain, Australia and Canada among numerous others.
Shoust, one of the top backstrokers and freestylers on the Panthers during the last three years, placed in the top 20 in the 50 and 100 back, while also competing in the 200 back and 50 free. Shoust was runner-up at the 2005 Big East Conference Championships in both the 100 back and 200 back.
Barnes, the top Panther breaststroker this season, had a tremendous meet as well. He placed seventh in the 50 breast and sixth in the 100 breast. He also competed in the 200 breast and finished in the top 20. Barnes claimed fourth and sixth-place finishes in the 200 and 100 breast, respectively, at the 2005 Big East Conference Championships.
