Panthers Drop Second Straight to Coastal Carolina, 6-5

Pittsburgh closes the weekend with a Sunday morning matchup against Rider.

PITTSBURGH ? Pittsburgh dropped its second consecutive game to Coastal Carolina, 6-5, on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers dropped to 1-2 on the season while the Chanticleers secured a 5-1 record.
Coastal Carolina got on the board early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Both Chris Todd and Jon Foisy scored off RBI singles by Michael DeJesus and Chris Raber.
The Panthers finally answered back in the top of the fifth. Both David Cline (Mercersburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) and Ben Copeland (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) walked to start off the inning. Cline then stole third as Copeland stole second. Jim Negrych (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis) then doubled to right center field scoring both Cline and Copeland to tie the game 2-2.
The Chanticleers quickly responded by scoring four runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth to give them a 6-2 advantage.
In an attempt to come back, Pittsburgh scored three more runs in the top of the sixth. Billy Muldowney (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) got on base by error and advanced to second as Jim Mayer (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) was walked. Both Muldowney and Mayer then advanced on a wild pitch. Michael Megale (Stamford, C.T./Stamford) then crushed a homer over the right field wall. However, despite their efforts, the Panthers could score no more.
Both teams then went without scoring in the rest of the game and the Chanticleers went on to win it 6-5.
Jake Hurry picked up the win for Coastal Carolina as Pittsburgh?s Paul Nardozzi (Victor, N.Y./Victor) suffered his first loss of the season.
The Panthers finish up their tournament play on Sunday at noon as they once again take on Rider.
NOTES: Pittsburgh had no errors in the game while Coastal Carolina had one.
