PITTSBURGH
Copeland (Bradford, Pa./Bradford), a 2004 All-Big East second-team selection, guided the Panthers to a perfect 3-0 record and a three-game series sweep of Canisius this past weekend. For the week, he batted .636 (7 of 11) with a 1.364 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage. Copeland had five RBIs, seven runs scored and four stolen bases.
In Pittsburgh?s 13-3 victory over the Griffs in the nightcap of Saturday?s doubleheader, Copeland tied his career-high with four hits and also matched a personal-best with three stolen bases. He fell one double shy of hitting for the cycle as he blasted two home runs to go along with triple and a single. Copeland scored four runs and drove in four RBIs in the contest.
For the year, Copeland is leading the Big East with 16 stolen bases and 21 runs scored, and he ranks among the conference?s best in batting (.393 avg.), hits (24), triples (2) and on-base percentage (.507).
Pittsburgh (10-5, 0-0 Big East) hosts Cleveland State on Wednesday before opening Big East play Thursday against Seton Hall at Trees Field. The Panthers then entertain Rutgers for a pair of games on Saturday.
