Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Seton Hall

In the first game, Pittsburgh?s offense dominated by scoring a total of 19 runs. Ben Copeland (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) and Jim Negrych (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis) each had four hits and five RBIs. Copeland, who also scored three runs for the Panthers, had a triple, a double, two singles, and two stolen bases in the game. Negrych picked up his second homerun on the season along with two doubles. Daniel Ford (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) also contributed with three hits and three runs, while Jeff Stevens (Danville, Va./Dan River High) and Peter Parise (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) each had two hits and two runs.
Pittsburgh?s starting hurler, Billy Muldowney (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) picked up his first win on the year, giving him a 1-1 record. Muldowney pitched a seven inning shut out, giving up only three hits and striking out twelve batters.
Seton Hall?s Jake Haggerty suffered the loss on the mound.
In the second game, the Seton Hall Pirates defeated the Panthers 10-6 in nine innings. Brandon Cohen and Anthony Perrone each had three hits and scored two runs for Seton Hall. John Walsh and Matt Scopak also contributed with two hits a piece.
For the Panthers, Copeland led with two hits and two runs scored. Parise, Stevens, and Dan Williams (Berwyn, Pa./Episcopal Academy) also each had one hit and one RBI in the game.
Pittsburgh?s starter Paul Nardozzi (Victor, N.Y./Victor) picks up his second loss on the season, leaving him with a 3-2 record.
Pirates? pitcher, Dan McDonald gets the win after completing five innings and allowing only four hits and two runs.
The Panthers are back in action this Saturday as they take on Big East rival Ruters in a doubleheader at Trees Field. The first game is scheduled for noon.
NOTES: Pittsburgh left a total of 21 men on base while Seton Hall only left 12...the Panthers had 24 hits total for both games and Seton Hall had 18...Seton Hall had three errors in two games while Pittsburgh had one.
