Panthers Lose Both in Doubleheader Against Rutgers

PITTSBURGH
In the first game, Jim Negrych (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis) led the Panthers with two hits, both of which were doubles, and one RBI. Pittsburgh, however, could only score three runs as Rutgers went on to win it 5-3.
The Scarlet Knights scored three of their runs in the top of the sixth inning. Rutgers? offense was led by Jeff Grose and Colin Gaynor. Grose finished the game with two runs and two hits, while Gaynor finished with one run, one hit, and two RBIs.
Pittsburgh?s Shaun Butler (Blackhawk, Pa./Blackhawk) picked up the loss in relief of Andrew Kuss (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus). Butler is now 1-2 on the season. Kuss pitched 4 innings allowing five hits and one run.
OJ DeChristofano got the win for Rutgers on the mound, leaving him with a record of 3-1.
In the second game, the Scarlet Knights defeated Pittsburgh 7-1. The Panthers only run came off a Billy Muldowney (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) home run over the left field wall, his first of the season.
Rutgers was led by Todd Frazier who finished with two runs, one hit, and two RBIs. Grose contributed with one run and three hits.
Rutgers pitcher, Steve Holt, got his second win on the year, giving him a 2-0 record. Holt pitched 7.1 innings and allowed only two hits and one run.
Pittsburgh?s starter Don Rhoten (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) picked up the loss on the mound. Rhoten currently has a record of 3-1 on the year.
The Panthers play again at home on Tuesday March 29th as they take on Niagara. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
NOTES: Pittsburgh?s David Cline had two stolen bases in the first game...the Panthers had three costly errors in the second game while Rutgers only had one...Rutgers left a total of 21 men on base and Pittsburgh left 11.
