Pittsburgh Baseball Crushes Wagner in 11-2 Victory

PITTSBURGH ? The Panthers dominated Wagner Sunday morning, as they won 11-2. Pittsburgh improves to 4-2 on the year, as Wagner drops to 2-3.
The Panthers started off early by scoring two runs in the first inning. Ben Copeland (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) led them off with a walk and stole both second and third base to get in scoring position. Jim Negrych (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis) had a sacrifice fly to center field to score Copeland. After singling through the right side, Dan Ford (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman), stole second. Ford then scored as Billy Muldowney (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) reached first on an error and advanced to second.
Wagner?s only two runs of the game came in the bottom of the second. Nick Papa, Sean Ferguson, and Jared Williams each singled for the Seahawks. Joseph DiGeronimo also contributed with a double to tie the game 2-2.
Negrych had solo shot in the third to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead. Pittsburgh then scored another two runs in the sixth. Jeff Stevens (Danville, Va./Dan River High) had a single through the right side and then scored off a Mike Megale (Stamford, C.T./Stamford) RBI double. Sean Conley (Chippewa, Pa./Blackhawk) then added a RBI single through the left side to score Megale. In the seventh, Negrych scored again on a throwing error by the catcher giving Pittsburgh a 6-2 advantage.
The Panthers broke the game open by scoring four more runs in the top of the eighth. Jim Mayer (Somerset, Pa./Somerset), Peter Parise (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), and Copeland each provided RBI doubles to plate three runs. The Pittsburgh offense capitalized on two walks, a balk, and wild pitch by the Seahawk?s starter, Mike McTamney.
In the ninth, the Panthers scored one last run as Megale singled up the middle. Copeland then singled to center. Mayer walked and all runners then advanced on a wild pitch making the final score 11-2.
Pittsburgh?s Paul Nardozzi (Victor, N.Y./Victor), picks up his first win of the season. Nardozzi, who pitched eight innings, allowed only seven hits and struck out twelve batters.
Wagner?s McTamney, who had two wild pitches, five walks, and a balk, suffered his first loss.
NOTES: Pittsburgh?s Copeland, Mayer, Negrych, Parise, and Megale each doubled in the game...Copeland had three hits and three stolen bases...Wagner committed two errors while the Panthers had none.
