Panthers Drop 5-1 Decision To Duquesne

After the Dukes took an early 2-0 lead, the Panthers scored their only run in the bottom of the second inning. Peter Parise led off with a double through the left side but then was thrown out at home as Edgard Sucre singled to right field.
Duquesne?s offense had 14 hits off Pitt?s pitching squad as starter Don Rhoten suffered the loss on the mound for the Panthers. Rhoten pitched two innings, allowing two runs and two hits.
Despite their efforts, Pitt was unable to plate any more runs in the remaining of the game, as the Dukes went on to win it 5-1.
Smith, now 1-1 on the year, pitched the entire game for the Dukes. Smith gave up four hits and just one run while striking out three Panthers in the win.
