Ten Panthers Qualify For NCAA Track and Field Championships

The NCAA Championships we be held at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif.
PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh's track and field teams returned home from the NCAA Track & Field East Regional held in New York, N.Y., this past weekend with 10 individuals who will compete in the NCAA Championships. The NCAA Championships will be held in Sacramento, Calif., on June 8-11.
In the shot put event, senior Amanda Walker (Hampton, Va./Bethel High School) will be representing the Panthers. This past weekend in Regional competition Walker threw the shot 16.01 meters for a third-place finish. Walker has set the school records for hammer, discus and both indoor and outdoor shot.
Senior Lamoy Stephens (Westmoreland, Jamaica/Manning's High School), freshman Shanea Calhoun (New Haven, Ct./Wilbur Cross High School), freshman Shantea Calhoun (New Haven, Ct./Wilbur Cross High School) and senior Kimberly Lyles (Somerset, Pa./Somerset High School) will be competing in the women's 4x100 meter relay.
In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Julianna Reed (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) will be representing the Panthers.
Sophomore standout Justin Clickett (Union City, Pa./Union City Area) threw the shot 18.71 meters in the Regional competition for a fifth-place finish. Clickett currently owns the outdoor school record in shot. Clickett has already achieved All-American status during the past indoor track & field season with his throw of 19.05 meters during the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
In javelin, senior Anthony Bonura (Plum, Pa./Canisius College) has qualified for the NCAA Championships with a mark of 69.33 meters which allowed him to capture a third-place finish.
Freshman pole vaulter Keith Higham (Carlisle Cumbria, Great Britain/Trinity School) finished tied for second at the regional event with a NCAA qualifying mark of 5.21 meters.
Senior Tamara McGill (Franklin Park, N.J./Franklin Township) qualified for the heptathlon. In 2004, McGill set the school record in the heptathlon during Big East Outdoor Championship. In 2004 and 2005, she was the Big East indoor champion in the pentathlon. Addtionally, she was the 2005 Outdoor champion, setting a school record with 5,404 points. McGill is currently ranked No. 14 in the country in the heptathlon.
Freshman Martina Hallman (Miami, Fl./Miami Southside High School) will be serving as an alternate for the 4x100 meter relay.
