PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving team decided to go full throttle with a dunk tank at their 2005 freshmen annual project during FanFest, prior to the Pitt-Youngstown State football game last weekend.
The Panthers, with the help of the athletic department administration, set up a dunk tank in front of Heinz Field. Shortly after, Athletic Director Jeff Long decided to be a good sport and took a seat in the tank. With large crowds cheering, it took less than five throws to dunk Mr. Long.
This is an annual event for the Pitt swimmers and divers. In years past, they have held mock relay races using blue sheets as the pool water, and have also tested the reaction times of kids and adults. This was the first year they ran a dunk tank and because of the enormous success and popularity, they are already looking forward to next year.
