PITTSBURGH - The Pitt baseball team hosted its annual Pro Scout Day Wednesday at Trees Field with 24 major league scouts in attendance.
The Panthers took batting practice, I/O, were evaluated by position and played a six inning scrimmage during the day.
"I was pleased with the way our team performed," Panther head coach Joe Jordano said. "Each stepped up and did a very solid job. This team is a work in progress and it realizes that we have to show up and work hard every day to be successful."
In addition to the team's work at Scout Day, they are wrapping up week four of fall practice and Jordano has been encouraged by the progression.
"Coach Dombkowski has done a great job with our hitters," the 10th-year head coach stated. "They are taking smart at-bats and are really doing well with their two-strike approach. Coach Moran has also been working well with the infielders. I have seen a significant improvement in their performance. At Scout Day, we played clean defensively, which under the circumstances, was impressive."
Pitt's fall practice concludes on Oct. 20. The spring season is set to begin on Feb. 16 when the Panthers travel to Coastal Carolina for a 4 p.m. contest.
"We have about 10 practices left and we have a bunch to accomplish during those sessions," Jordano said. "We are putting in a solid effort in all aspects."
