CINNCINATI - Pitt junior Diana Andreyko and senior Azadeh Boroumand earned All-Big East First Team honors today while freshman Meagan Dooley was named to the Second Team at the annual Big East Volleyball Banquet. This year's banquet was held at the Great Hall in the Tangeman University Center on Cincinnati's campus. For the fourth consecutive year, two Panthers have earned first team All-Big East honors.
Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) has earned All-Big East honors for a second season and was a unanimous All-Big East preseason selection this year. The team's leading outside hitter, she was named to the league's honor roll three times this year and is eighth in the conference with a 3.94 kills per game average. Andreyko has hit .221 against Big East opponents with seven double-doubles.
Boroumand (Red Deer, Alberta/Thurber) was the league's first Player of the Week in 2006 recording a triple-double in her first weekend of play. As a setter, she was named to the conference honor roll twice this year and averages 11.81 assists per game, putting her fifth overall. Boroumand is Pitt's most accurate hitter, holding a .333 hitting percentage in league matches.
Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was a two-time Big East Rookie of the Week and earned a spot on the league's honor roll three times throughout the season. She averages 3.47 kills per game with a .285 hitting percentage in conference contests.
The Panthers are the No. 3 seed in the Big East Tournament, beginning tomorrow at the Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati. Pitt will play No. 6 Marquette at 10 a.m., a school the Panthers defeated earlier this season in Milwaukee. Pitt has never lost to the never lost a match to the Golden Eagles and is 47-10 all-time in the Big East postseason tournament
