MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--Fairfield handed the Pitt men's soccer team a 2-1 defeat Sunday in the West Virginia Shootout at Dick Dlesk Stadium. The contest marked Pitt's second in the WVU Shootout. Pitt drops to 0-2-0 overall while Fairfield improves to 1-1-0 on young season

Fairfield's Steve Desmond scored both of the Stags' goals in the second half to seal the victory. Trailing 1-0, Desmond headed in an unassisted ball to tie the score at 1-1 in the 47th minute. In the 54th minute, Desmond took a pass from David Piedrahita and finished a shot into the side net for the game winner
Pitt claimed a 1-0 lead in the game's 20th minute when Fairfield scored on itself
Fairfield outshot Pitt 11-5 and had seven shots in the second half. After an ejection, Fairfield played with only 10 players for the game's final 24 minutes.
