PITTSBURGH - With one week of fall practice complete, the Pitt baseball team and head coach Joe Jordano are encouraged by the progression the team has made to date.
"We have four practices down and we are progressing well," Jordano said. "We are doing a lot of teaching and establishing the team attitude that we stress. Our saying is `Hard and Smart', meaning that everything we do, we need to work hard and be smart. It needs to be the entire team's approach, to improve every day. I am very pleased with where we are after one week."
Jordano stated that the challenge in the first few weeks of practice is getting players accustomed to the team's routine.
"When freshmen come into a program, the most difficult thing is adjusting to the structure of a collegiate team," Jordano said. "They are not accustomed to the additional responsibilities of our academic programs, our weight lifting regimen and everything that goes along with being a student-athlete. Our returners have a solid attitude and have been helping them along and, as a team, we have gotten better every day."
While Jordano has been working with the pitchers, Associate Head Coach Joel Dombkowski has been focusing on the outfielders and Assistant Coach Sean Moran has been guiding the infielders throughout the week.
Pitt's fall practice will continue through Oct. 20 and weekly updates can be found on www.pittsburghpanthers.com.
