PITTSBURGH - The Pitt women's track and field team travels to Ohio this weekend for the Akron Quad meet featuring host Akron, as well as Ohio and Seton Hall. The meet will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12.
Leading the Panthers in the 60 meters and 200 meters will be the Calhoun sisters, Shantea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) and Shanea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross). In the Golden Flash Gala last month, Shantea won the 60 meters with a time of 7.58 while Shanea came in second at 7.69. Last year, Shanea earned all-conference honors with a second-place finish in the 200 meters, while Shantea placed fourth in the 60 meters at the Big East Championships.
In the long jump and 60-meter hurdles, the Panthers have junior Martina Hallman (Miami, Fla./Miami Southridge). Last year Hallman earned all-conference honors after placing third in the long jump at the Big East Championships. She additionally finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles. Senior Julianna Reed (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) returns as the champion in the 60-meter hurdles at the Akron Quad last season.
The Akron Quad serves as a good practice run for the track field team, as the Panthers will also compete in the Big East Championships at the same facility in February.
