
PANTHER WOMEN TAKE SECOND IN AKRON QUAD MEET

AKRON, Ohio - Pitt's women's track and field team posted a second-place finish at Friday's Akron Quad. With 142 total points, they trailed host Akron by only 20 points and defeated Big East opponent Seton Hall and Ohio. The Panthers won both the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump.
In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Mycaiah Clemons (New Kensington, Pa./Virginia Tech) won with a time of 8.82, defeating the competition by .11. Junior Martina Hallman (Miami, Fla./Miami Southridge) won the long jump with a distance of 5.91 meters, and sophomore Janessa Murphy (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) came in second at 5.80 meters.
Murphy went on to also finish third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.67, and sophomore Kristin Johnson (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) placed second at 10.85 meters. Both competitors had personal-best marks in the triple jump.
In the 200 meters, junior Shanea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) took third with a time of 24.57, and in the 400 meters, freshman Patricia Anyanwu (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) came in third at 58.78. The Panthers came through in the mile as well, with Ali Briggs (Washington, Pa./Washington) placing third at 5:10.14. And in the 3,000 meters, Nicki Angstadt (Kutztown, Pa./Fleetwood) placed second with a time of 10:20.14.
The women's 1,600-meter relay team also came in second. They ran for a time of 3:55.68.
Next up for the Panthers will be the Penn State Open next weekend as the team moves well into its regular-season indoor schedule.
