Women's Volleyball Travels For Two Conference Matches

PITTSBURGH--The Pitt women's volleyball team looks to extend their three-match win streak on the road this weekend against Big East opponents Georgetown and South Florida. The Panthers will open the weekend against the Hoyas on Friday at noon. Pitt will then travel to Tampa, Fla. to face the Bulls on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Pitt (11-8, 5-1, Big East) successfully defended its unbeaten home record with wins over Seton Hall (3-0) and Villanova (3-2) last weekend. The Panthers were led by senior Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) who recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 10 digs in the win over the Pirates. Andreyko earned Big East Weekly Honors for her efforts after posting 22 kills in the Wildcats matchup.
Defensively, sophomore libero Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) recorded 32 total digs over the weekend. Rossi currently leads the Big East in digs with a 4.97 average per game, while Pitt is first with an overall average of 17.59 digs in conference matches.
During the weekend, Head Coach Chris Beerman earned his 250th career win and 150th win at Pitt.
Leading Georgetown (4-16, 0-5, Big East) with 208 kills and 654 total attacks is Dana Dumas. Last weekend the Hoyas dropped three road matches and return to Washington, D.C. to host two conference matches.
USF (10-5, 2-3, Big East) is coming off a split weekend and is led by Marcela Gurgel with 239 kills and 626 total attacks. In last season's matchup against the Bulls, sophomore Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) led the team with 11 kills and chipped in four blocks. Rossi also recorded 20 digs in the shutout victory.
In the all-time series, Pitt leads both Georgetown (35-6) and South Florida (2-0).
