Women's Volleyball Still Unbeaten At Home

PITTSBURGH--Pitt extended its unbeaten home streak to 8-0, as the University of Pittsburgh women's volleyball team defeated Robert Morris, 3-1, this evening at Fitzgerald Field House. Pitt won with scores of 30-22, 29-31, 30-28 and 30-22.
The Panthers (12-10) remain perfect at home and rebound from the two losses over the weekend in the match. Led by senior Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) with 22 kills, Pitt held Robert Morris (11-8) to a .128 hitting percentage.
Junior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) posted a double-double in the match with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Sophomore Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) added 15 kills and six blocks, while junior Jessica Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) chipped in 12 kills and seven blocks.
Pitt finally began to pull away from the Colonials in game one when Moses recorded back-to-back aces in the match. On the next play Dooley and redshirt sophomore Melissa Stadelman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) combined on a block to take a 17-13 lead and force a RMU timeout.
Moses and Campbell gave Pitt a 25-20 lead with a block assist for each. After RMU took another timeout, Dooley tallied a kill as she attacked a long pass from the Colonials.
Dooley then won the game with a kill from the outside, thanks to an assist from junior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton). Taurence recorded 12 assists on 13 of Pitt's kills in the opening game.
After trailing 18-12 in game three, Dooley and freshman Amy Town (Orilla, Ontario/Orilla) combined for the next three kills to cut into the Colonial lead at 18-15. A few plays later, Andreko tied the game at 19 with a kill for the Panthers.
Pitt and RMU then traded points back and forth until the Colonials recorded an attack error and the Panthers took a 25-23 lead. A few plays later Dooley and freshman Emily Burke (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) would combine on a block to give Pitt a 28-25 lead and force a timeout.
Andreyko would later win the game point with her 18th kill of the match.
In the deciding match, Campbell recorded a team-high five kills and sophomore Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) had a game-high 11 digs.
Pitt took the final lead of the match when Andreyko recorded another kill to lift Pitt to a 14-13 lead. A few plays later Dooley would record a block solo and an 18-14 Panther advantage.
Holding a 24-17 lead, Moses went around Burke for a cross-court kill in game four, as Pitt went on to win the game 30-?.
Earlier in game two, Pitt held a 12-8 lead after Moses and Taurence teamed on a block for the Panthers. Andreyko would then record back-to-back kills from the outside for a 14-9 advantage.
Later Pitt led 16-10, when RMU went on a 4-1 run to close the gap and force the Panthers to take a timeout. However, Pitt would trail 23-18 before Andreyko tied the game at 23. Andreyko later gave Pitt a 26-25 lead with another kill.
Andreyko would set up a game point when she attacked a long pass that fell between two Colonials. However, RMU held Pitt scoreless for five points to take game two 31-29.
Rossi recorded 26 digs in the match, while Burke posted 31 assists.
Pitt resumes Big East play when it travels to Morgantown, W Va. on Friday, Oct. 19, in a 7 p.m. contest.
