Cross Country Competes at Big East Championships

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt cross country teams took part in the Big East Championships today at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. Both the men and women took 11th in the respective team competitions.
Three freshmen led the men's team as Joshua Christopher (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford), Sam Weiser (Ellwood City, Pa./West Point) and Teddy Miller (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) captured three of the Panthers' four top spots. Christopher, as he has done all season, was the first Panther to finish, turning in a 54th-place time of 25:23.40. Senior Curtis Larimer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) followed in 57th with his time of 25:34.95.
Sophomore Eric Burnett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) also joined Pitt's top five with a mark of 26:27.50.
On the women's side, seniors Amy Ruffolo (Wexford, Pa./Duquesne) and Alexandra Briggs (Washington, Pa./Washington) clocked in at 21:52.20 and 22:13.40, respectively. Freshman Anna Yoney (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) turned in a 61st-place finish with her time of 22:30.25.
June Farley (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) and Monica Bhattacharjee (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) rounded out Pitt's top five after finishing the course in times of 23:32.80 and 23:36.30.
The next event on the cross country schedule is the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet on Saturday, Nov. 10, in Bethlehem, Pa. Competition is set to begin at 11 a.m.
