Panthers End Season at NCAA Regional Championships

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh cross country team finished the 2007 season today at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by Lehigh University. The women's team captured a 13th-place finish, while the men came in 16th out of the 28 teams in competition. Princeton captured the team title in the women's division and Georgetown claimed the men's crown.
Senior Amy Ruffolo (Wexford, Pa./Duquesne) set the pace for the women and was the 37th runner to cross the finish line with a time of 21:31. Following Ruffolo was freshman Anna Yoney (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and senior Alexandra Briggs (Washington, Pa./Washington), who claimed 46th and 64th places, respectively.
Senior Curtis Larimer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) turned in the Panthers' top performance on the men's side with a top 50 overall time of 31:27 in the 10K race. Larimer was joined in Pitt's top five by freshmen Joshua Christopher (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and Teddy Miller (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon), as well as sophomores Sam Weiser (Ellwood City, Pa./West Point) and Lane King (Fairview, Pa./Fairview). Christopher, who has led the Panthers in every single race this season, placed second on the team with a 71st-place time 31:52.
The women's top five performers were filled out by junior Monica Bhattacharjee (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and freshman June Farley (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) with times of 23:25 and 23:26, placing them 125th and 126th overall.
