Women's Swimming and Diving Wins Home Opener

PITTSBURGH--Pitt's women's swimming and diving team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 140-89 victory over Cincinnati in the Panther's home opener at Trees Pool this afternoon.
Sophomore Margo Ekstrom (Erie, Pa./McDowell) won the both the 1M and 3M boards, while classmate Hanna Bratton (Lincoln, R.I./Moses Brown) finished second in both. In the 1M event, Ekstrom edged out Bratton with a score of 254.48-254.40.
Swimming events opened with the 400 medley relay team finishing first with a time of 3:56.79. Earning the top finish on that team was sophomore Ryann Kishbaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), freshman Laura Barnes (Pickering, Ont./Dunbarton Secondary), senior Brittany Stevens (Peachtree City, Ga./Starr's Mill/Florida State) and sophomore Megan Sculley (Sinking Springs, Pa./Wilson/William and Mary).
As the meet progress, two members of that relay would win individual races as well. Later, Kishbaugh would lead all in the 200 back with a time of 2:06.87.
However, Stevens finished first in the 200 fly after she took the early lead and touching the wall at 2:07.99. Freshman Cookie McIntyre (York, Pa./West York Area) placed second in the same event with a time of 2:10.13.
Just as she did in the two meets prior, junior Stacie Safritt (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) was another multi-event winner. She earned the top finish in the 50 free (23.73) and the 100 free (51.22) for the Panthers.
Also finishing with top times in more than one individual event, junior Ruth Seiffert (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) took the lead on the final 50 of the 200 IM to win with a time of 2:09.03. She later paced the Panthers in the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.63, while Barnes trailed her with a time of 2:26.82.
Other event winners included freshman Katie Cutrell (Ligonier, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic), who took the early lead in the 1000 free and extended it to a near seven-second advantage for a first-place finish at the 10:24.85 mark. Cutrell later finished at the 5:07.65 mark in the 500 free.
In the 200 free, freshman Sarah Looney (Sugar Hill, Ga./North Gwinnett) sneaked by junior Agnes Mago (Kecskemet, Hungary/Bolyai Janos/Radford) as they finished first and second with times of 1:55.31 and 1:55.59.
The 400 free relay team of Safritt, Sculley, freshman Kristen McMullan (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) and Mago stopped the clock at 3:32.88 in the final event of the meet.
The Panthers return to action in Fitzgerald Field House on Friday, Nov. 9, hosting Notre Dame at 3 p.m.
