LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Senior Diana Andreyko records a back-to-back double-double this afternoon, as Pitt's women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to No. 21 Louisville on the road. The Panthers dropped the match with scores of 18-30, 30-28, 30-27 and 30-20.
In Andreyko's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) 11th double-double of the season, she recorded 14 kills and 12 digs in the match. She also chipped in a solo block and a service ace. Andreyko is now just 32 kills shy of breaking the all-time career kills record that stands at 1,815.
Junior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) came off the bench and tallied 13 kills, while freshman Amy Town (Orillia, Ont./Orillia) made the start and posted another 12 kills.
Sophomore Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) led the defensive charge with 17 digs for Pitt (14-13, 7-6 Big East).
The Panthers trailed early on and battled through several ties before finally taking the eventual win in game two, 30-28.
After a 7-7 tie, Pitt slipped behind Louisville (19-4, 12-0 Big East) 15-12 and called a timeout. Junior Jessica Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) then tallied a kill in the match, which cut the deficit to two. Later the Panthers trailed 20-16 but battled back to tie the game once more at 24. Taurence then recorded on of her four service aces of the season to lift Pitt to a 25-24 lead.
Louisville wouldn't back down and tied the game at 27 a few plays later, however back-to-back attack errors from the Cardinals would set Pitt with a game point. Campbell recorded the winning kill.
With a .297 team hitting clip, Andreyko and Campbell led the offensive attack with four kills each in game two.
In the first game of the contest, the Panthers recorded 11 kills but committed seven attack errors. Pitt trailed the Cardinals the whole game, but were led by Campbell and Town with four kills apiece.
As in the game prior to it, game three had seven ties and three lead changes. Pitt held a 9-8 lead before the Cardinals tied it at 11. Following that tie, The Panthers kept the score within three points, pulling within one, 21-20, thanks to a set from junior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) that gave Campbell one of her four kills in the game.
An attack error on the next play would give Louisville another two-point lead, 22-20, as the Cardinals would only lead by three the rest of the game.
The Panthers then dropped the fourth game, as Louisville held them to 11 kills and Pitt blocked just two attacks. Andreyko recorded three kills, but Campbell was one of few to record positive hitting percentage at .400.
Pitt will host its final homestand at Fitzgerald Field House this weekend, as the Panthers face non-conference opponent St. Louis Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m.
