PITTSBURGH-- The women's track and field team will head to Baltimore, Md., to compete in the Morgan State Legacy Meet. The competition will be held at Hughes Stadium on April 20 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Traveling with the Panthers will be some of their best performers. Senior Julianna Reed (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) will be competing in the 400-meter hurdles, 400 meters and the 1,600-meter relay. Reed has set regional-qualifying times in the 400-meter hurdles in every meet this season. Her best time this season, 59.59, was at the Texas Relays.
In the sprints, junior Shantea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) will be representing the Panthers in the 100 meters, 400 meters and 400-meter relay. At the Fred Hardy Invitational, Calhoun took first place with a time of 55.67 in the 400 meters and set a facility record at the Fred Hardy Track and Field Facility. Competing among the best athletes in the country, Calhoun had a sixth-place finish at the Sea Ray Relays in the 100 meters with a time of 11.91.
Raquel Bender (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) has also had a standout season in sprints. Bender was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Meet at the Asics Liberty Invitational for her first place finish in the 100 meters and second-place finish in the 200 meters. She recorded times of 12.29 in the 100 meters and 24.54 in the 200 meters. She also took third at the Fred Hardy Invitational for her time of 24.60 in the 200 meters. Along with the 200 meters, Bender will also be competing in the 400-meter relay this weekend.
Sophomore Janessa Murphy (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) dominated in the long jump at the Asics Liberty Invitational. She registered a Big East-qualifying distance of 5.60 meters and took first place. Murphy will also be competing in the 100 meters, triple jump and 400-meter relay at the Morgan State Legacy Meet. Kim Rorabaugh (Clymer, Pa./Purchase Line) will be competing in the shot put. Rorabaugh took second place at the Asics Liberty Invitational with a recorded distance of 13.10 meters.
