PITTSBURGH - Pitt junior Martina Hallman broke into the NCAA's top 25 this week after a solid performance at the Morgan State Legacy Meet. Last weekend, Hallman won the long jump and recorded her first regional-qualifying mark of the season.
Hallman (Miami, Fla./Miami Southridge) jumped 6.16 meters last weekend to put her 25th among NCAA Division I competitors. She then went on to place third in the triple jump. Her personal-best distance in the long jump is 6.18 meters, a mark she hit at last season's Big East Outdoor Championships. Hallman went on to win the league title with that mark. The Morgan State meet marked her first time competing this event this season, and she earned a Big East, ECAC and regional-qualifying mark.
One of Pitt's most versatile competitors, Hallman also competes in sprints and hurdles. At the upcoming Big East Championships in two weeks, she'll be on the track or in the field for most of the weekend with qualifying marks and times in three events plus relays.
Hallman and the Panthers will travel to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia this weekend. This will be the team's final regular-season meet before the conference championships.
