
WOMEN WIN THREE EVENTS AT IUP OPEN

INDIANA, Pa. - Some of Pitt's middle and long distance runners competed at the IUP Open last weekend in Indiana, Pa. The women competed in four events and won three of them. Individual champions included Ali Briggs, Suzy Bossart and Nicki Angstadt.
Briggs (Washington, Pa./Washington) won the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.13. In second place was Bailey Flask (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) with a personal-best 2:23.32. Briggs went on to finish second in the 1,500 meters at 4:43.81, and Flask placed sixth with a personal-best 4:50.53.
In the 3,000 meters, Bossart (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) ran a 10:35.43 for first place. Teammate Nikki Bielick (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) finished in fourth at 11:14.85.
Senior Nicki Angstadt (Kutztown, Pa./Fleetwood) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:56.90. Angstadt is one of the team's regional competitors, having qualified in this event. Also running in this event were Melissa Vignetti (Pittsburgh, Pa./McMurray) and Monica Bhattacharjee (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield). Vignetti placed third at 12:06.50, and Bhattacharjee took fourth with a personal-best 12:10.20.
The Panthers will travel to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia this weekend. This will be the team's final regular-season meet before the conference championships.
