
PITT WOMEN WIN 400-METER RELAY AT THE PENN RELAYS

PHILADELPHIA - The Pitt women's track and field team wrapped up its regular season slate this weekend at the Penn Relays where the 400-meter relay team won the ECAC division. Pitt also had two regional-qualifying performances from Janessa Murphy and Julianna Reed.
The 400-meter relay team consisted of Shanea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross), Raquel Bender (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills), Shantea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) and Murphy (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley). The group ran a time of 46.21 in the preliminaries for 15th overall. They went on to run a time of 45.75 in the ECAC finals for the victory.
Murphy finished second in the ECAC division of the long jump with a regional-qualifying distance of 6.11 meters. Also competing in that event was Martina Hallman (Miami, Fla./Miami Southridge) who finished ninth at 5.79.
Reed (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) finished eighth in the championship division of the 400-meter hurdles with a regional-qualifying time of 59.28. Hallman took 30th at 1:02.82, and freshman Patricia Anyanwu (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) finished in 59th at 1:06.71.
In other relays, the women's 800-meter relay team took sixth in the Championship of America division. The squad of the Calhouns, Hallman and Bender finished at 1:36.71. They ran a preliminary time of 1:36.75. The 1,600-meter relay team of Reed, Katelyn Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley), Kari Hedderick (Erie, Pa./Fort Lebouf) and Selena Sappleton (Brooklyn, N.Y./A.P. Randolph) ran a time of 3:45.91 in the preliminaries. Another 1,600-meter relay team of Brown, Sappleton and the Calhouns finished second in the ECAC division at 3:44.90.
Kendall Butch (Butler, Pa./Butler) represented Pitt in two events. She finished 10th in the high jump's Eastern division with a height of 1.61 meters. She also tied for 10th in the college division of the pole vault at 3.35 meters. In other field events, senior Kim Rorabaugh (Clymer, Pa./Purchase Line) took 18th in the shot put with a throw of 12.55 meters. She also finished 25th in the hammer throw at 47.91 meters.
Pitt also had a team of Brown, Hedderick, Brianna Broyles (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) and Krystal Epps (Butler, Pa./Butler) run a time of 4:04.94 in the sprint medley relay.
Next up for the Panthers will be the Big East Championships next weekend in Storrs, Conn. The competition begins on Friday for multi competitors and continues through Sunday.
