ROSTRAVER TWP., Pa. - Pitt wrestling Head Coach Rande Stottlemyer received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Mon Valley Panther Club Chapter at their 24th annual banquet last evening.
Stottlemyer has a record of 234-204 throughout his tenure at Pitt and has produced 26 NCAA All-Americans and 28 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) conference champions. He is a two-time EWL Coach of the Year, receiving honors in 1987 and 1990. Stottlemyer has coached at least one wrestler to All-America honors in 17 of the last 24 seasons, including two this season in Keith Gavin and Matt Kocher.
While Stottlemyer's student-athletes are successful in the gym, they are also productive in the classroom. The wrestling team had the highest GPA of Pitt's men's teams in 2006. His team has been named a National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Academic Team, and he's coached two recipients of the Omicron Delta Kappa Award.
For the 2007-08 season, Stottlemyer will be coaching three NCAA All-Americans, three EWL Champions and seven NCAA qualifiers.
