
WOMEN'S TEAM PLACES SECOND AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

PRINCETON, N.J. - The women's track and field team finished second at the ECAC Championships this weekend. The Panthers tied Virginia with 63 points. Winning the meet was Georgetown with 79 points. The Pitt women, however, did win the 400-meter relay.
The relay squad consisted of Martina Hallman (Miami, Fla./Miami Southridge), Raquel Bender (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills), Shanea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) and Shantea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross). The team ran a regional-qualifying time of 45.58. Pitt also qualified for finals in the 1,600-meter relay. That relay team of the Calhouns, Julianna Reed (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) and Selena Sappleton (Brooklyn, N.Y./A.P. Randolph) finished fifth with a time of 3:44.83.
In sprints, Shantea Calhoun led the way, placing fourth in the 100 meters at 11.85 and second in the 200 meters with a time of 24.19. Bender finished fifth in the 100 meters at 11.95 and sixth in the 200 meters at 24.41. And Shanea Calhoun finished eighth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.13 and went on to place sixth in the 200 meters at 24.41.
The team had finalists in both hurdles events. In the 100-meter hurdles, Mycaiah Clemons (New Kensington, Pa./Virginia Tech) placed third with a regional-qualifying time of 13.87. In the 400-meter hurdles, Reed finished third at 59.23, and Hallman came in sixth at 1:00.62. Both had regional-qualifying times.
There were two Pitt competitors in field events as well. Kendall Butch (Butler, Pa./Butler) placed 11th in the high jump with a height of 1.65 meters. Hallman finished 16th in the triple jump at 11.64.
Pitt will have next weekend off followed by the regional meet the last week in May.
