Women's Volleyball Sweeps DePaul

PITTSBURGH--Perfect at home, Pitt women's volleyball team swept DePaul, 3-0, this afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House. Pitt stands at 5-0 at home and improved to 8-7 on the year and 2-0 in the Big East, while the Blue Demons slipped to 4-11 on the season and 0-2 in the league.
Junior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) recorded a double-double in the match with 12 kills and 11 digs. Campbell also posted two block assists, while junior Jessica Moses (North Olmsted, Ohio/Lutheran West) led the squad with four block assists.
Posting a game-high 14 kills, senior Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) chipped in six digs to go along with her .423 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) recorded 10 kills and three blocks, including to monster block solos.
After dropping a few points in game one, Moses recorded a kill to give Pitt an 18-10 lead. Moses later gave the Panthers an eight-point lead when she scored the 24th point off a middle attack.
Campbell led all with five kills and a .400 hitting average in the first game.
Trailing 14-7, the Panthers were forced to take a timeout in game two. Pitt then scored the next two points, including a kill from Moses off an attack on a long DePaul pass.
Due to a 6-3 run, the Panthers cut lead to three, 16-13, forcing a Blue Demon timeout. Following the break Moses and junior Stephanie Ross (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) blocked an attack for another point.
Pitt took the lead at 19-18 off a DePaul attack error. Campbell extended the lead to 24-21 for the Panthers with her seventh kill of the match. Pitt would lose five points the rest of the game, as Dooley would win the game point off a middle kill.
Next in game three, Dooley won the Panthers' first point with a solo block, while Andreyko attacked a long Blue Demon pass for the second point and a 2-1 lead.
Junior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton), who started the third game, dumped a shot and gave Pitt a 20-12 advantage much later in the game. The Panthers then went on to win the match with another Dooley kill.
Freshman Emily Burke (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) recorded 18 assists and five digs in the match, while Taurence boasted 23 assists.
Pitt travels to No. 21 St. John's next. The Panthers and Red Storm meet in a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday, Sept. 29.
