PITTSBURGH—Freshman Rousseau Kluever won four events in his first meet at Trees Pool, as Pitt’s Gold squad won its 2008 Blue-Gold swimming and diving meet at Trees Pool, this afternoon. The Gold earned a 134-117 victory over the Blue.
Representing Gold, Kluever (Cape Town, South Africa) won the 200 fly at 1:52.45, which was just shy of the Blue-Gold record at 1:52.09. He later finished first in the 500 free (4:48.77) and 200 IM (1:55.68).
Kluever was also the third leg of the winning 200 medley relay team that opened the meet. He was joined by sophomore Bobby Smith (Copiague, N.Y.), senior B.J. Conklyn (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and junior Charlie Zettel (Wayne, Pa.) on that relay.
Smith returned later and won the 200 back (1:55.38), while Zettel touched the wall first in the 100 fly (52.01).
Leading the Blue team in three events was senior Jonathan Buchanan (Beavercreek, Ohio). Buchanan won the 100 breast (59.62) as the only Panther to finish under a minute in the event. Then he touched first in the 200 breast (2:23.35) and as a member of the 200 free relay.
Also claiming two titles for Blue was freshman Alex Navarro (Redwood City, Calif.), including the 100 free (47.35) and 200 free (1:43.88) at Big East qualifying times.
Returning All-America diver, Alex Volovetski (Brandon, Fla.) won the 3M (336.15) board for Blue, while Gold’s sophomore Collin Forner (Allentown, Pa.) won the 1M event (263.63).
Pitt opens its 2008-09 slate on Oct. 24, at 4 p.m., against St. Bonaventure.
